Winter Skincare Tips
The weather outside may be frightful, but that doesn’t mean your skin has to be. These winter skincare tips will help keep your skin looking fresh and feeling hydrated through the coming months.
Get a new moisturizer
Even if you have a favorite moisturizer, it may not be the best one for your skin during the colder months. As the season’s change, so should your skincare routine. A moisturizer that is oil based, as opposed to water based, will generate a layer of protection on the body. This will help your skin retain moisture. Not all oil-based products are good for your skin. Be sure to check the ingredients to confirm that the product contains non-clogging oils like mineral oil, avocado oil, primrose oil, or almond oil.
Apply sunscreen
Just because you’re not laying out by the pool doesn’t mean the sun’s rays can’t get to your skin. Snow glare plus the winter sun can damage your skin. Before you go outside, remember to apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. In addition to your face, don’t forget to rub some on your ears, behind your neck, and the tops of your hands.
Avoid wet clothes
After coming inside from shoveling the walkway, your socks and gloves may have become wet. Wet fabrics can irritate the skin and cause cracking sores, or itching. Be sure you have outdoor gloves and boots that are waterproof. But if you do get wet, switch to dry clothes as soon as you can.
Plug in the humidifier
Space heaters or central heating systems may feel glorious during the freezing winter months, but they aren’t very friendly to your skin. Counteract the hot, dry air from these devices by using a humidifier to add more moisture to your surroundings. This will assist with keeping the skin hydrated.
