A Sleeker You

When you lose weight, it does not always go from the place you want it to most.  No matter how long you exercise or diet, you can be left with a bulging tummy and excess skin.  The best solution could well be to have a tummy tuck PA, otherwise known as an abdominoplasty PA.

This is a surgical procedure, which takes two to five hours, usually under general anesthesia, and it does leave scars, so you will need to be sure that you can trust your surgeon’s skills and advice.  Dr. Benjamin Lam based in Philadelphia PA is a double-board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a wealth of experience in a wide range of procedures including breast implants PA (breast augmentation PA) and liposuction as well as abdominoplasty.  He considers factors such as genetics, skin elasticity and your history of weight gain and loss, as well as what you are hoping to achieve.

There are four main types of tummy tuck.  An endoscopic abdominoplasty is the least invasive technique, which results in smaller scars and less swelling or bruising, so you recover faster.  A mini, or partial, abdominoplasty requires a slightly larger incision, and is recommended for patients who are within 10% of their target weight.  The traditional, or standard, abdominoplasty is used where fat causes prominent bulges, or where there is droopy skin.  With this technique the excess skin is removed and the muscles are tightened and repositioned.  Sometimes it is used in conjunction with liposuction.  The fourth type is an extended abdominoplasty, which involves a larger incision from the lower abdomen to the back of the hips.  It is often the best choice to remove ‘love handles’, that stubborn excess skin and fat around the hip area.  The incision is made directly above the pubic area, so it is easily covered by swimwear or underwear.  Providing your weight remains stable and you don’t get pregnant, the results of a tummy tuck are permanent.

Every patient is unique.  Dr. Lam advises on the best techniques for your individual case and provides you with a realistic assessment of the outcome.  You could achieve the flatter, firmer tummy you’ve always wanted.

Banish the Bulge

Losing excess weight is not always enough for you to achieve a smooth silhouette.  Whether you are male or female you can be left with droopy skin and flab or overstretched muscles that give you disappointing bulges.  For women, pregnancy can also cause once toned tummies to have wrinkly skin and protruding muscles.  One of the best ways to restore your appearance and make you feel good about yourself again, is to have a tummy tuck PA, otherwise called an abdominoplasty PA.

A tummy tuck not only gives you a flatter stomach by removing excess skin and flab, but tightens and repositions the underlying muscles of the lower abdominal area for a more streamlined, sculpted appearance.   It is ideal for stubborn areas of fat that refuse to budge no matter how long you diet or how regularly you exercise.  The results look great and feel firmer.

The time to have a tummy tuck is when you do not intend having more children or when you are near your target weight.  As it is a surgical procedure you will need to be in good health, and to be sure that you are in the hands of a skilled surgeon.  Dr. Lam is a double-board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Philadelphia PA, who has a wealth of experience in breast implants PA (breast augmentation PA), as well as tummy tucks and liposuction PA. The latter procedure is often used with a tummy tuck to produce the sleekest appearance.  He always discusses what you are hoping to achieve and will never promise unrealistic results.

A tummy tuck might not make you look the way you did in your teens again – no one can promise that – but it will improve how clothes fit you, and restore your self-confidence.  It can help you get rid of those ‘love handles’, tighten up sagging skin and take years off your appearance.  When you have tried hard to lose weight and get fit, don’t you think you deserve to look good too?

A Fuller Life

Breast implants PA are the answer for many women who are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts, yet anxiety about having surgery may put them off taking that step.  Dr. Benjamin Lam of Philadelphia PA is a double board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with almost 20 years’ experience of tummy tuck PA (abdominoplasty PA) and liposuction PA as well as breast augmentation PA.  After assessing your suitability for the procedure at a consultation, he ensures that you know exactly what to expect.

Before surgery, smokers should give up the habit – preferably several months ahead – and you may be advised not to take aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs which can increase the chance of bleeding.  A mammogram will probably be taken before and after the procedure.  Breast augmentation can either be carried out under a general or a local anesthetic and intravenous sedation.  Dr. Lam ensures you know which will be the best option for you and when you will be able to go home.  After the surgery, your breasts will be wrapped in gauze dressings or a surgical bra and you will be cared for in a recovery area.  You will be given medication to minimize any discomfort.

When you go home, you will need someone to drive you there and to stay with you for at least the first night.  You will have all the information you need so that you know what to expect and how to care for yourself.  After one or two days you should be up and moving around, and you will be able to shower after a few days when the dressing is taken off.  The stitches are usually removed after a week.  Do not be worried about discoloration or swelling after the procedure as these disappear rapidly, with most swelling gone in less than a month.

Every surgical procedure carries some risks, so choosing an experienced, meticulous and highly qualified surgeon you can trust makes sense.  Having breast implants can give you the confidence you need to live life to the full.

Next time: find out about the recovery process.

Every Body’s Different

Ask most women what they would like to change about their appearance, and they will probably mention their breasts.  Perhaps they feel they are too small, or maybe one is larger than the other.  Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding can all alter the shape and size of breasts, as can losing weight and the effects of aging.  No doubt this is why breast augmentation PA is one of the most common procedures double board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Benjamin Lam, who is based in Philadelphia PA carries out.

He uses breast implants PA to improve both the shape and the size of breasts, thus enhancing the proportions of the whole figure.  Dr. Lam has almost 20 years’ experience of plastic and reconstructive surgery including abdominoplasty PA (tummy tuck PA) and liposuction PA.  The first thing he considers at your consultation is how you feel about your breasts and what you are hoping to achieve.  The next step is an examination when not only the shape and size of the breasts, but the placement of the nipples and the areolas (the pigmented area) surrounding them, and the quality of the skin will be assessed.  If the breasts are sagging, having them lifted as well might produce the best results.

It is important to discuss any medical conditions such as drug allergies, or whether you are on medication.  You should also mention any previous treatments or surgeries, including biopsies.  If you intend having children or are still slimming, these can affect the shape of the breasts, so it would be better to delay surgery until afterwards.  There is no evidence that breast implants affect pregnancy or breast-feeding.  One last factor to consider is whether their is a history of cancer in your family, as breast implants can make it harder to take mammograms.

When you consult Dr. Lam you can be sure of getting meticulous treatment that does not end when you leave his operating room.  Breast augmentation could be the key to restoring your self-confidence.

When All Else Fails

You have lost weight or you have had a baby, and no matter how much you exercise you cannot get rid of the excess skin and flab. The answer could be an abdominoplasty PA, otherwise known as a tummy tuck PA. This removes the unwanted tissue, tightening the muscles in the abdominal wall, leaving you with a flatter stomach and more pleasing silhouette.

It is suitable for both men and women, but it is a major surgical procedure, so you should always think carefully before you choose to go ahead with it. Double-board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Benjamin Lam, based in Philadelphia PA, has almost 20 years’ experience of this procedure as well as liposuction PA, breast implants PA and breast augmentation PA. He gives you as much information as possible and tailors procedures to each individual, offering advice on how to alleviate any discomfort and promote healing.

The procedure lasts between two to three hours, and is carried out under general anesthetic. In a complete abdominoplasty the navel is given a new opening and you may need drainage tubes under the skin for a few days. The incision is made near the pubic hairline to minimize scarring. A partial abdominoplasty is less invasive and is performed using an endoscope. Inevitably, there will be some soreness and swelling, as you will have stitches and bandages.

Before the operation it is important to eat a healthy diet and to give up smoking. Having ice-packs and a telephone within easy reach, a hand-held shower and petroleum jelly for the wound and wearing loose clothing that is easy to put on and off will help you to stay comfortable after the procedure. You will not be able to do physical exercise for several weeks afterwards and you may need to take up to a month off work.

Sometimes there is only so much you can do with dieting and exercise. When you have tried your hardest and nothing else has worked, a tummy tuck can give you the smooth silhouette you have always wanted.

Who Has Cosmetic Surgery?

That is the question a team of UCLA sociologists and psychologists set out to answer.  They carried out a survey of 52,000, people aged between 18 and 65, and came up with some findings that they had not expected. Although the average age of respondents was in the mid 30s, the survey revealed that a wide range of both men and women from all age groups and varied walks of life are interested in cosmetic surgery – something that double-board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Benjamin Lam, based in Philadelphia PA, can confirm.

The pressure to look young and beautiful means that around 31 per cent of women and 16 per cent of men felt so uncomfortable about their looks they would not wear a swimsuit in public. However, many of those who were as happy with their face and body as those who were not interested in cosmetic procedures said they would still consider cosmetic surgery.

They not only wanted to look younger, but to enhance their appearance generally.  Women, in particular, wanted to look slimmer, with men aiming for a more toned and muscular look.  Breast implants PA (breast augmentation PA), abdominoplasty PA (tummy tuck PA) and liposuction PA are among the most popular procedures used to achieve the attractive figures people are aiming for.

Most women (71 per cent) would consider cosmetic surgery with 48 per cent saying they were definitely interested.  Around a third of men would also consider it – that is a three-fold increase since 2004, when 90 per cent of cosmetic surgery was performed on women.  In fact, there was a 48 per cent increase in the number of cosmetic surgery procedures carried out from 2000 to 2006, according to the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, rising to 11 million in 2006.  With innovations in surgical procedures and techniques the trend is bound to continue.

If you can imagine a better you… you are far from being alone.
